Camp Right Way-Houston, is getting bigger and better every year. I’m impressed every year with the talent and the states that are represented. This camp started mainly as a statewide and regional camp but has expanded to states outside the region, representing 18 states. This year there wasn’t as many post players as in past years, but the guard play in attendance was outstanding.

Below is just a few players that stood out to me.

2021 5'6" Ja’Sea Jackson (Kirby, TX )Kirby MS

He has very nice handles and navigates well in traffic. I love his ball instincts on offense and his defensive ability. He didn’t shoot much from deep, but has a nice mid-range.

2021 5'4" Jai Moore (Dallas, TX) Frankford MS

He’s lightening quick and made very good decisions playing at a fast pace. He was dropping dime after dime. He’s a heck of an on-ball defender and was also good at playing passing the lanes.

2021 6'5" Keon Edwards (Pasadena, TX)  St. Thomas Episcopal

He oozes potential. He’s long and runs the floor like greyhound. He has very good hands and catches in traffic. He has nice touch around the basket and didn’t let contact bother him. He's still raw, which is scary.

2021 6'0" Cameron Oliver (Richmond, TX)  James Bowie MS

He’s real crafty and has a very good understanding of the game. He got in the lane at will and had no problem finishing with either hand. When the defense converged he had no problem dropping it off. He has a real smooth pace about his game.

2021 5'8" Carlos Stewart (Baton Rouge, LA) Central MS

He was one of those players you watch that doesn't whoa you but always seems to be making play after play. He stayed in position to score.

2021 5'9" Wade Taylor IV (Dallas, TX )  St. Anthony

He was very consistent the whole weekend. He played within himself and made very good decisions. He picked his spots to score and didn’t force anything.

2021 Joseph Venzant (Midland, TX)  Alamo Junior High

The young fella can flat out ball. He played with patience and picked his spots to take over. He can score at will if he wanted to, but had no problem letting the game come to him. He was a very unselfish player.

2021 5'9" Nyseia Williams (Orlando, FL)   The Masters Academy

I was very impressed with his sweet stroke from deep. He knows how to get his shot off and had no problem getting open. He plays with the utmost confidence. He does need to get better off the dribble.

2021 6'2" Ashton Smith (Humble, TX) Teague Middle School

A little bit of a project. He has good size and a really good body. He has a decent touch inside. He needs to work more on his footwork and handles. He still impressed me this past weekend.

2021 6'3" Langston Love (San Antonio, TX ) St. George Episcopal

This young fella was relentless the whole weekend. He stayed in attack mode and if you didn’t get out the way he was going through you. He just got it done.

2021 6'11" Chuks Lucky Isitua (Houston, TX) Provision Prep School

The big fella had a rough day one, but on day two he came back with a vengeance. He was contesting all shots on the defensive end and on the offensive end he was finishing almost everything around the rim. He put the ball on the floor and made solid power moves.

2021 5'11" Chance Perkins (Houston, TX)) Brookside Intermediate

Every time I watch him play his game seems to improve. First and foremost, he’s playing with so much more confidence. He’s finishing around the basket when contested. His stroke looks so much better and he’s shooting with much more confidence. Where he improved the most this time, is with his on the ball defense. He’s now picking up 94 feet and staying in front of his man.

2021 D’marcus Wolfe (Humble, TX) Woodcreek Middle School

This young fella has great body and is a phenomenal athlete. He’s physical and finished consistently in the paint. He’s still raw and needs to play more within himself, but down the line I can see this young fella being a real problem.

2021 6'4" Brandon Harton Jr  (Baton Rouge, LA)  Scotlandville

He’s a long and lanky lefty that has an awkward game and a non-stop motor so he was very hard to guard. He seemed to always be at the basket making plays, on the defensive end he was good at using his length to get deflections. He needs to continue working on his handles. All in all, I loved his effort.

2021 5'10" Daren Hawkins (Tulsa, OK)  Clyde Boyd Middle School

He plays kind of smooth. He plays with a nice pace and that’s rare for a young player. He showed good court awareness and had an all-around game. I would like to see more intensity out of him.

2021 5'7" Daelyn Williams (Spring, TX) Twin Creeks Middle School

The young man’s very skilled and has mad handles. He seemed to get to the basket on command and when it called for, he knocked down the floater with ease. He also had a decent stroke from deep.

2021 6'8" Reuben Fatheree (Richmond, TX)  Briscoe Junior HS

I was very impressed with the big fella. For being 285 pounds he moved well and had very good feet. He has nice touch around the basket with either hand and passes very well out the post. He can play physical but also had some finesse to his game. It’s going to be fun watching his development.

2021 6'6" Jared Viesca (Cypress, TX) Goodson MS

He’s a project, but has good instincts, body and length. He has a very promising upside.

2021 5'10" Cooper DeJean (Odebolt, IA) OABCIG High School

A physical lead guard from Iowa with huge potential. I could see him playing at either state school in 5 years. He’s very skilled, tough as nails and just knows how to play. He seems to play better, the more physical the game gets.

2021 5'8" Kendrick Delahoussaye  (Lafayette, LA) Acadian MS

He played at 100mph in stations and in games. He never seemed to take a play off. He was always in attack mode and trying to get to the rack and score.

2022 5'9" Bryce Griggs (Lake Jackson, TX)  Provision Prep School

He just has the complete game and plays way beyond his years. He has great skill set. He can play physical or finesse you. He has a very high I.Q. He has very good handles and court vision. The main thing I like, he seems to always have fun when he plays and enjoys when his teammates make plays.

2022  5'5" Mason Manning (Jackson, MS)  Siwell Middle School

He’s always one of the most prepared kids at camps I cover. So this time it caught me off guard when he struggled on day one. The best thing about this kid, he understood he struggled and came back on day two with what I expected. He was knocking down threes, dropping dimes and getting to the cup. He was a perfect floor general.

2022  5'0" Michael Caruthers (Murfreesboro, TN) Whitworth Vachanon Middle School

This little dynamo always impressed me with his competiveness. He competes against bigger kids without being intimidated. You can’t tell him he’s only 4 foot something. He handles are amazing.

2022 5'9" Von Wells (El Lago, TX)  Seabrook Intermediate

He doesn’t have the sexy game and at times can look awkward, but seemed to always get the job done. He can stroke it from deep and also got it done in the paint.

2022 5'6" Dorien Goodman (Dallas, TX) J. L. Long Middle School

He was very quick and had some nice bounce. He guarded 94 feet and stayed in their chest. He had good handles, but at times could get a little loose with them. He played with great energy and enthusiasm.

5'2" 2022 Camron Amboree (Humble, TX)  Humble Middle School

Cam is a camp vet. He’s great in station work and in games has no problem adjusting to different teammates. He can handle, stroke it from deep and has the floater in his arsenal. He still needs to get stronger and that will come.

2022 6'0" Brendon Mwamba (Pearland, TX)  Berry Miller Jr. High    He’s still a little raw, but showed a good understanding of the game and played within himself. He looked good knocking down the mid-range jump shot. He’s needs to get stronger, but the potential is there for him to get much better.

2022 5'11" Caleb Burton (Del Valle, TX) Del Valle Middle School

Another physical lefty in camp that kept the pressure on. He had no problem playing with contact and at times seemed to welcome it. He’s physical defender that guards with his body and his hands. Most of his damage on the offensive end was done at the basket.

2022 6'4" Kevin Garcia (Laredo, TX) Memorial Middle School

He’s long and very fluid. I really like the way he runs the floor. He has very good hands and feet. He has a soft touch from 15 feet in.

2022 6'2" Nehikhare Igiehon (Houston, TX) Trinity Episcopal

He’s long, bouncy, aggressive and physical. He came in the camp all business and it showed. He was a straight bully and it worked for him. More than 90% of his work was done in the paint. He was tenacious on both the offensive and defensive glass.

2022 5'11" Xavier Owens (Houston, TX) Klein Intermediate School

He’s very bouncy and athletic. He has a nice stroke from outside and showed he can handle the ball. He was decent on defense but with his athleticism can be an outstanding defender.

2023 4'11" Jaland  Lowe (Missouri City, TX) Tanglewood MS    6th

Lil Lowe’s is a little light in the seat and was playing against many of the kids two times his size. But with all that being said he more than held his own and for his age has a very good understanding of the game and he continued to compete.
