Khaalid, Walker and Stute shine

ATLANTA, GA  - The Super Sophomore Camp was down in Atlanta this past weekend. It was good eye opener for the talented 2020 class. The Top 20 game was full of elite level talent. I couldn't take my eyes off the game. It was good to see some of these kids prove their selves against the top in the class. Here are a few standouts from the top 40 & top 20 games:

G LuCye Patterson looked good early Sunday during the camp. He showed a good handle, can get a step on bigger defenders, can create space off bounce to get off shot. His pull up jumper was money from mid-range

F Myles Stute was one of the better scorers during the camp. Stute has a nice stroke from deep, good touch on his jumper, and has a high release. He can shoot it off the dribble or catch. He can really get up in transition.

G Mark Sears shot the ball well during the camp. He's a lefty and can shoot it from deep or mid range. Sears made good decisions in the pick n roll.

F Chris Moore was one of the bullies of the camp. He's strong, physical, and looks for contact when attacking. He knows how to use his body to shield off defenders for the finish at the rack. Moore had a number of nice finishes around the rim.

C Mark Williams is a lengthy guy and he's athletic. He had a number of rim punishing finishes. Williams showed that he has good hands when he caught some very tough passes and alley-oops. On the defensive end he is a rim protector. Williams also runs the floor well.

Wing Isaiah Adams put people on notice after a vicious one-handed slam. Adams is very bouncy which allows him to finish above the rim in traffic. He understands attacking the basket at angles. Adams is a lefty and he has good court vision for a wing.

Wing Corey Walker plays at a very good pace. He has a smooth game and he knows how to get to his spots. His height and handle ability makes him a tough matchup for any defender. Walker has a smooth pull up jumper that he shoots well from mid range. He also showed the ability to shoot the long ball.

PG Rashaud McDaniels was the bully amongst the guards. He's a very good off ball defender and opponents whether bigger or smaller had a tough time against him. He has a smooth handle, a quick change of speed & direction. McDaniels plays very strong and likes to get physical.

F Jaemyn Brakefield was my MVP of the top 20 game. The Underclassman All-American game alumni showed why he's one of the top in the class. Brakefield can play inside and out. He knows how to get open around the basket for easy buckets. He makes good use of ball fakes to get the defense off balance. He also knocked down a couple of deep balls. His skill set reminded me a bit of Draymond Green minus the court vision. He can grab the rebound and push the break and he can catch the ball on the perimeter and get past his defender to the basket.

G Brandon Weston showed tremendous range and confidence on his jump shot. He's the type of kid that you have to pick up as soon as he crosses half court. He can shoot your lights out if you give him the slightest space, but if you push up on him he has the ability to handle the ball and beat his defender off the dribble.

PG Naseem Khaalid submitted his application for best PG in the class. Defenders couldn't stay in front of him. He was practically doing whatever he wanted on the floor. He has great court vision and can see the pass before his man gets open. Khaalid also has a smooth mid-range pull up jumper that's tough to guard. He made defenders frustrated all day.

PG Adam Miller has good court vision and he's a good passer. Miller is also crafty with the rock and made a few defenders look silly.

G Nimari Burnett can really score the ball efficiently. He cashes in on his open opportunities. Burnett has a nice stroke, good touch on his shot, and he knows how to get his shot off when contested.
