NORCROSS, GA - The basketball season is heatimg up already and it just got atarted last week. The OTR Showcase had some solid matchups, while showcasing a few of the top young plauers in Georgia.

The first match-up had a scrappy Central Gwinnett squad vs Southwest Dekalb with 6-2 PG  Kadarius "KD" Johnson and 6-4 shooter Eugene Brown. The Black Knights made it a game early, taking a small into the half with hustle plays and scrappy defense.

SWD is young but talented and that took over in the 2nd half, led by Johnson and Brown. Johnson, an explosive scorer, capable of taking over games, came up with a couple of steals and finishes with Brown finding his range for SWD to grab the lead and close Central out, 74-55. Junior forward James Glisson III  was consistent throughout, making athletic plays around the basket, rebounding well and showing a solid stroke.

Other top performers on the day:

2020 6-6 WG BJ Boston (Norcross,GA) Followed last week's performance with another good showing on Saturday. What I see in Boston is a player that can effect the game with his length on defense while being a notable scoring threat n offense. Gainesville did a good job of minimizing his shot attempts but he had an effect on the game through his defense. His willingness to do that will excite HM coaches.

2018 6-7 F KJ Buffen (Gainseville) The Middle Tennessee signee played tough on both ends. He was very active on the glass, scored on slashing drives and transition while assigned to the Blue Devils scoring threat, BJ Boston. He will be a huge part to a successful championship run.

2019 6-5 SF Jamir Chaplin (Meadowcreek) When he plays as a finisher and not as a playmaker he's very effective and he was mostly that Saturday night. Chaplain was on the finishing end on a few lobs and drops for above the rim finishes against a tough Pebblebrook squad.

2018 6-0 PG Dwight Murray (Pebblebrook) The unsigned senior gave Creek all it could handle in helping his team to a 57-52 win. He has a great stroke with a quick release and has gotten smarter using shot fakes to get to the rim. His recruiting will surely pick-up as shooters are at a premium and he defends.

2018 5-10 PG Dalvin White (Norcross) Another unsigned guard who had a good night, especially early. White started off the game goimg 4-5 from the 3-point line. The speedy guard will be crucial in the Blue Devils quest fpr another banner.

2018 6-4 PG Jarred Godfrey (Sandy Creek) Showed good tools as a lead guard, managed the game well, showing good decision makimg while scoring when needed. Would love to see him look for his offense more.

Lambert had a few players that had good games in the smashing of last year's champion, South Atlanta. Senior guard Damon Stoudemire started out making energy plays, finishing in transition and defended well, giving Lambert an early boost. Junior PG Mitch Ganote was a steady force against the South Atlanta pressure. SA was never able to speed him up as his heady play led to a stream of easy baskets. Senior PG Jordan McIlwain shot it well off the catch with range and showed some athleticism as well.
