Edwards leads Xpress to 17U Championship

(Emerson, GA) The Adidas Memorial Day Classic, in its 3rd year, and part of four regional sites had an extra benefit this year with some of the top UA teams in the South.

One of those teams, Atlanta Xpress, captured the 17U championship through the play of dynamic guard, 2020 Anthony Edwards. He is knocking at the door for the top shooting guard spot in a nationally loaded class. What you immediately notice about Edwards is college ready build that he uses to absorb contact on his many forays to the basket, his ability to elevate without space and his very effective pull-up game. He can create off the bounce and although streaky from there that is improving every day. Edwards is a multi-dimensional player and does defend and rebound on both ends.

A few others that shined:

2019 6-3 SG Chase Hunter (Atlanta XpressWestlake)  - Edwards wasn't the only reason why Xpress won the MDC, Hunter an Athletic wing with good stroke and range had a good weekend. His improved handle puts pressure on defense. and created space for his jumper. Rebounds position. Transition finisher.

2019 5-11 PG Kalen Williams (Team Power/Lakeside) Stepped up against the competition. In the Celtics loss and previous game he came up big when needed, Played with good pace, has good vision and created off the bounce. Has good floater game. Make-able jumper. One of the top PG’s in state.

2019 6-4 PG Damion Baugh (Team Thad) Not known as a shooter, Baugh was hot from deep in the quarterfinal game. Very good athlete, good length with a desire to defend, Shifty handles.Although he ran into a buzz saw named Edwards, he didn't shy away from the challenge, often picking up full-court.

2019 6-3 PG Kyky Tandy (Team Thad) - Explosive, Tandy stayed in attack mode. Transition and downhill is where he lives. Has a tendency to dominate ball at times. High end athletic,

2019 6-7 WG Jaykwon Walton (Team Thad) - Long athletic wing, that can defend multiple positions. He shot it well off the bounce with range on jumper. Solid rebounder.

2020 6-2 PG KD Johnson (Game Elite/SWD HS) - Athletic guard with explosive first step. Defended well and was very disruptive in run and jump defense. Very good in transition and attacking on ball reversal. Inconsistent jumper but improving, knocking down three in one game. Energy, dives for loose balls. Top 100 player.

2020 6-4 SF Sam Hines Jr.(Game Elite/St. Francis) - Now that he's given the opportunity to play on perimeter Hines is showing his potential. Tough attacking wing. Finished through contact. Showed improved handles and has a willingness to rebound.

2020 6-5 WG Keon Johnson (EAB) Has led his team to multiple championships this spring. Has ball skills you can run offense through, shoots it good off dribble and catch but doesn't settle. Attacks and finishes through contact. Made key defensive plays down stretch in close win. In a loaded class of shooting guards, don’t be surprised to see him in the top 30 nationally.

2021 5-11 PG  Madison Peaster (Joe Johnson Hawks) – At the helm of a very talented Hawks team, Peaster is a floor general with vision and explosive first step., He does a nice job of changes pace to beat defender and is strong to finish in paint.

2021 6-8 F Jaylin Williams (Joe Johnson Hawks/Northside) - Great body for young  big, rim protector, rebounds with solid touch around rim. Still 14. Northside

2021 6-0 PG Emondre Bolles (Savannah Unified/Johnson) Very shifty handles, likes to attack basket, solid jumper. Spot shooter from the line. extreme competitor.

2021 6-4 SG Trey Alexander 6-4 SG (Heritage Hall) - Trey can fill it up from all levels. Had 29 in thought loss to Celtics but gave his all. Hyper competitive, athletic and tough. HM potential.

2021 SF Carlos Stewart (Louisiana Supreme/Dunham HS) - Dynamic scorer. High level at using screens to curl into shots or if defender trailing to tight, one-two dribble pullup or to the basket to finish. Best thing about him, he plays defense the way he plays offense...HARD.
